HCFW Board President Stephen Monto
Hitchcock Center for Women faced many difficult challenges last year – but through determined effort, we answered the call and set the stage for continued success. Foremost among these challenges was budget uncertainty, driven by extreme pressure on our regional and state economies. Despite the vexing funding environment, we ended the year with operating income to levels as planned and with our cash balance above projections. These accomplishments were the result of deft thinking from our senior leadership and great teamwork across the organization. We are proud of our accomplishments and our collective dedication to our mission.
While we are thankful for our successes, we also recognize that the tough budget environment will likely be a long-term challenge for Hitchcock and all non-profits – and that revenue diversification is a resulting necessity. To this end, our leadership and board have set five-year goals paired with strategies to increase both our private service revenue and fundraising. We have also committed to develop multi-year budgets, so that we plan in a thoughtful, holistic manner.
We are confident that through proactive planning, we will continue to answer the call. Our clients and community deserve our best effort, and we are committed to delivering.

Our response to the tough economic times also includes strengthening our governance. As a first step, we have developed strategies to continue strengthening by recruiting individuals dedicated to our cause. We have also established a board scorecard, to measure our efficacy as stewards of the organization.
The coming year is certain to require continued hard work and determination from the entire Hitchcock team. We are confident that through proactive planning, we will continue to answer the call. Our clients and community deserve our best effort, and we are committed to delivering.
